From Brittany to the Netherlands: A Journey Beyond Borders
I grew up in Brittany, France, surrounded by nature and the sea, a beautiful place, but one that always made me want to explore beyond the horizon. When it came time to choose a direction, I moved to Le Havre to study French, British, and American law. Three years later, in 2019, I was ready for the next chapter and headed to Groningen in the Netherlands for a Master's in Company Law.
I fell in love with the country, the culture, the mindset, the way people live, and decided to stay a little longer, completing a second Master's in International Business Law in Tilburg with a specialisation in digital innovation in commerce and finance, a program that sits at the intersection of law, technology, and entrepreneurship, which felt like exactly where I wanted to be.
From there, I explored the legal world through internships at law firms. I quickly realized, though, that while I had the qualifications, I wasn't a lawyer at heart. The environment didn't suit me. What I wanted was to bring my legal rigor and analytical thinking into a different kind of work, so I made the move into consulting. After two and a half years at a large firm, I was ready for something different. Large organizations can sometimes feel impersonal, and I found myself wanting a place where I felt genuinely seen and where my contributions mattered. That's what brought me to FIRMC.
Redefining a Career Path: From Law to Consulting
Joining the financial and regulatory sector was actually a more natural transition than it might seem. My Master's in Tilburg was specifically designed around the idea that tomorrow's lawyers need to think like entrepreneurs, understanding technology, navigating digital transformation, and working on real business problems, not just legal theory. That mindset shaped how I approached my career from the start.
Law and financial regulation also share the same DNA: both are built on precision, interpretation, and understanding how rules shape behaviour. Stepping into financial and regulatory consulting felt like a logical extension of everything I had studied. What really drew me in was the complexity and pace of the sector, regulation is never static, and neither are the challenges it creates for businesses. For someone who wanted to apply legal rigour in a more dynamic, business-facing environment, it was the right fit.
Taking Ownership in a Startup Environment
I came to FIRMC with consulting experience, but a startup operates on a completely different energy. There's no rigid structure telling you to stay in your lane, and I found that energising.
Over time, I naturally started taking on more, looking for ways to add value, and thinking about the bigger picture rather than just the task in front of me. I've developed a real entrepreneurial mindset here. I take initiative, I push myself to do a little more than expected, and I've become someone who sees opportunities rather than just assignments. My role has grown because I've grown into it, and FIRMC has always given me the space and trust to do that.
Lessons in Growth, Rigour, and Resilience
At FIRMC, I've learned that rigour and adaptability are not opposites, you need both. In a fast-moving, complex sector, being thorough matters, but so does knowing when to pivot and think creatively.
But if I'm honest, the most valuable thing I've learned is more personal: that the environment you work in shapes you more than you realise. My first year at FIRMC was genuinely difficult, life has a way of throwing things at you, and what stayed with me was how supported I felt throughout. FIRMC never stopped believing in me, even when I was navigating tough moments. That taught me a lot about what good leadership looks like, and about the kind of colleague and professional I want to be. Resilience, I've learned, is not just about pushing through. It's about having the right people around you when things get hard.
